TAMWORTH'S first-ever floating market is coming to Alvecote Marina as a dozen trading boats take to the water to sell a whole host of homemade goods.

The event will take place from Friday, April 18 to Monday, April 21 and it will be Roving Canal Traders Association's second market, after previously hosting the event on the Waterfront in Birmingham City Centre.

Michael Wooding, Event Organiser of Canal Traders Association, said: "Our first market in Birmingham was a huge success.

"Over the weekend last September we attracted around 7,000 people, with boats and market-goers coming from afar."

Trading on boats goes back thousands of years but it is still heavily maintained in the Far East as farmers paddle their produce in wooden canoes. Asked what's on offer, Michael said: "We have painted canal-ware, craft goods, souvenirs, cheeses, herbs and spices, jewellery. We pretty much sell anything. As well as goods we hope to have a small funfair and other attractions on site, too."

The market, which will take place on the Coventry Canal, Robeys Lane, will run from 10am to 6pm over Easter.
