TAMWORTH'S HMV store is to close, administrators have announced today.

The store is one of 66 across the country that will shut their doors - and is expected to close within one or two months.

Administrators identified the Tamworth branch as a "loss-making store", it has been revealed.

More than 900 staff are set to lose their jobs, but it is not yet known how many will be lost from the Tamworth store closure.

Nick Edwards, joint administrator, said:  "As part of our ongoing review of HMV's financial position, we have now completed a review of the store portfolio and have identified 66 loss making stores for closure.

"This step has been taken in order to enhance the prospects of securing the business' future as a going concern.
"We continue to receive strong support from staff and are extremely grateful to them for their commitment during an understandably difficult period.

"All other key stakeholders remain very supportive and I continue to be hopeful of securing a future for the restructured business."

Stores will continue to trade for the meantime. Other shops set to close include branches in Birmingham Fort, Burton-on-Trent and Walsall.

Tamworth branch a 'loss making store' ... even after they used Forced Unwaged Labour. Maybe if they didn't breach article 2 (4) of the European Convention on Human Rights, some people wouldn't have boycotted HMV, this undoubtedly had some effect on sales across all stores.
