Tamworth-based football star Marc Albrighton made his first start for Aston Villa in their 2-0 UEFA Cup defeat at CSKA Moscow on Thursday night.
The former Mile Oak Monarchs junior only found out an hour before kick off that he was set to start the clash, alongside another youngster – Barry Bannan.
Albrighton told the official Aston Villa website: "It was amazing.
"We only found out an hour before that we were starting and we were both really looking forward to the game.
"We were a bit nervous but once we got our first touches everything was fine.
"We settled in well and gave a good account of ourselves.
"To make my debut in a stadium that hosted a Champions League final was unbelievable. I really enjoyed it.
"We spoke about our chances of playing in the days before the clash. We both thought one might start and the other might be on the bench.
"For us both to play was really great. It was great to be on the pitch alongside some fantastic stars."
